Understanding the Pain-Nutrition Connection

As a chiropractor in active practice for 25 years I see people of all ages who come in for a variety of reasons. Most often it is centered on some type of discomfort or pain symptom.

It’s important to know there is a connection between inadequate nutrition and pain. Nutrition (or under-nutrition) is a factor in many of the symptoms I treat in my office including back pain, limb pain, and headaches.

The Real Root of Pain

Most discomfort we feel comes from hyperactive nerve or muscle tone; and/or inflammation and swelling. It doesn’t matter if the pain location is in the spine, head or internal organs area.

Muscles, nerves, our immune and hormone systems need adequate amounts of plant-sourced nutrients to maintain the biochemistry for optimal function.

Insufficient vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants can cause muscles to stay hypertonic and sore, especially after they have been worked hard.

Inadequate nutrition also contributes to low-grade inflammation which causes the pain cycle to continue in the:

  • Joints (arthritis)
  • Muscles (fibromyalgia)
  • Tendons (tendonitis)

A Prescription for Health

Eating a whole food diet that is rich in organic fruits and vegetables can result in marked changes in your health. I also recognize this is hard for many to do consistently and that’s where supplements can help.

There is a big difference between the nutrients and vitamins grown by nature and the synthetic versions that are widely available. For a long time I searched for a quality line of whole food supplements with no artificial nutrients.

In July 2014 I was introduced to the whole food supplements of Touchstone Essentials and it didn’t take long for me to notice that “healthier feeling” the organic plants provide.

Putting Plant Nutrition into Practice

After experiencing feeling better first-hand, I started integrating whole food supplements in my practice to augment chiropractic care.

Chiropractors adjust our patients with techniques that relax hypertonic muscles and nerves and restore movement of the spinal segments. This helps calm inflammation and contributes to the patient feeling better.

Sometimes the relief doesn’t last as long as we’d like. Normal daily activities seem to be more strain than their body can handle. Within days or weeks their body is tightening up again. This is where nutrition can make a difference.

The Results were Remarkable

In my practice, I observed that when someone starts consuming Touchstone Essentials’ products, their body responds faster after an adjustment and the correction holds for a lot longer.

The longer they have been supplementing the more evident the benefit. This applies to the young student athlete, to the senior citizen trying to remain as active as possible, and everyone in-between.

I have also noticed the same with my own family, including me! These products have elevated the health of many people I love and care for!

It is extremely difficult to consume enough plant-sourced nutrients for optimal health without taking a supplement, especially in today’s world. That’s why I am so thankful for Touchstone Essentials and the quality of their plant-based, whole food products.
